find-the-right-job-nowIf you’re like millions of others, you’re either worried about becoming unemployed or struggling to find a job.  Finding the right job isn’t difficult, it just takes preparation and follow through.

My guess is there are a lot of you out there who haven’t had to write a resume or cover letter in years.  What you may not realize is that simply submitting a basic resume is not going to get you many interviews.

In today’s market the competition for a new job in the U.S. is fierce with the millions of people unemployed all fighting for the a limited number of positions.  To give you an edge up on people I’m going to give you some tips to help you.

Tips to Find the Right Job Now:

  • Stand out from the crowd
  • Create a Powerful Resume
  • Your cover letter must sell you
  • Collect every award and accolade and make a brag book

Where to look for job opportunities:

  • Newspaper classifieds
  • Online classifieds like craigslist, hotjobs & monster
  • Company websites
  • Social networking sites like linkedin and facebook

The single most important thing you have to do before you even start looking for a job is to make sure your resume and cover letter are as close to perfect as possible.  People love to go on the internet and just copy and paste examples to use as there own.

I’ll let you in on a little secret…

You and 5 million other people are doing the exact same thing.

And guess what?

Most of these just get tossed into a pile for review later.  If you want to find the right job or your dream job you need to grab your potential employer’s attention and then keep it.

Things you should be asking yourself if you want to find the right job and not something beneath you:

  • What about me is better than everyone else?
  • What have I accomplished that makes me special?
  • What skills do I have that make me a better candidate?

Once you have figured these things out you need to make sure that you convey these to your future employer.  If you’re not sure where to start, a great place to give you some ideas is craigslist.

Look at resumes of people looking for sales positions.  You’re going to start seeing some really good ones and really bad ones.  What you need to do is compare them and see what draws you towards one more than the other.
